Down in Dixie...

Hello. I'm Mr. T and I love Tacos.
I live in Lake Charles, Louisiana and I am on a quest to find the best tacos in town.

It's Tuesday... you know what that means...
Yep! It's "TACO" Tuesday!!

Today we review the Dixie Chicken Tacos from Rikenjak's Brewing Company on Ryan Street.

You can order the chicken tacos either grilled or fried. I always get the fried chicken ones.

They start with soft tortillas and they put deep fried chicken strips on them. They garnish it with spinach leaves, pico and some beer cheese (made from their own brew.) On the side you get beans and rice but I usually substitute their hand battered onion rings. They also give you a little cup of ranch to put on your tacos.

These tacos are fantastic. They are my favorite chicken tacos in town!  There's a taste explosion going on here with these tacos. The chicken is very tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside. The beer cheeses is delicious on them. It's a little spicy which I like a lot. The pico compliments the entire taco and the ranch adds a tangy balance that brings the whole taco together.
I highly recommend the Dixie Chicken Tacos! You can't go wrong with them. I give them the top rating of "FABULOUS." Go try them!

Thanks for reading the blog and get out there and eat some tacos, sucka!!

Until next week,

Build Your Own Taco...

Hello. I'm Mr. T and I love Tacos.
I live in Lake Charles, Louisiana and I am on a quest to find the best tacos in town.

It's Tuesday... you know what that means...
Yep! It's "TACO" Tuesday!!

Today I will review the tacos from Izzo's Illegal Burrito.
This is a chain and the one in Lake Charles is located on Prien Lake Road across the street from the Mall.

The thing that is cool about Izzo's is that it is set up sorta like Subway in the fact that you go down the line and tell them what you want on your tacos. Lots of fresh ingredients to choose from.

What makes this taco hard to review is the fact that each visit the taco can change taste depending on what toppings you get. So, this review is only for the tacos with the toppings I chose during that visit.
If I go back I will do a separate review of the different tacos.

This time around I got 2 tacos. Both were in soft flour tortillas.

I went with grilled shrimp for the meat.
I went pretty light on the toppings too, choosing pico de gallo, roasted corn, black beans, black olives and sour cream.

They take the soft tortillas and sort of grill them so that they come out somewhere between hard and soft. I like that.

The tacos are small compared to other places. The shrimp was good, but not that well seasoned for my taste. I liked the pico and the roasted corn.

What I definitely won't do next time is get black beans or black olives on the tacos. Those are really good on nachos which I've eaten there before but I don't think they are suitable for the tacos because the flavor of those two items overpowered the rest of the taco.
It wasn't bad at all, I just think that if I didn't chose those toppings the tacos would have been much more enjoyable.

So... I rate these tacos "OK." But this rating is only for the way I dressed the tacos this round. It could change upon other visits with different toppings. I will definitely go back but next time I might try the chicken or the beef tacos without any beans or olives.

Today's Taco Tuesday, fools. Go get you some!

Something Fishy about these tacos...

Hello. I'm Mr. T and I love Tacos.
I live in Lake Charles, Louisiana and I am on a quest to find the best tacos in town.

It's Tuesday... you know what that means...
Yep! It's "TACO" Tuesday!!

Hello Taco pals!

This time around we will be looking at a taco from a place you would not expect to find tacos.
I'm going to review a fish taco from Long John Silver's. Yep. A fast food fish place now has tacos.
It's called the Baja Fish Taco and the order comes with two or you can get it as a combo with a side dish and a drink.

I'll say right up front that this isn't a bad taco. I really enjoyed them.

The taco is made of a soft flour tortilla that holds a crunchy fish filet that Long John Silver's is known for. It's that delicious crunchy battered tender fish we are used to. They add a tiny bit of slaw and a dash of their "baja" sauce which seemed to be some spicy Thousand Island type dressing. They were medium sized tacos. If you are familiar with their fish the taco is basically the length of their fish filets.

The slaw and the sauce add flavor to the taco and it by no means over powers the taste or drowns out the delicious fish. Mine was hot. They cooked the filets while I waited. The combo was $6 and some change. Not bad.

As far as fish tacos go I have had much better but this one is not bad at all. I found it to be very tasty. I'll definitely have more of them. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

I rate it "good."

Until next Tuesday, fools.  I pity you if you aint had no tacos today!

Quack, Quack!

Hello. I'm Mr. T and I love Tacos.
I live in Lake Charles, Louisiana and I am on a quest to find the best tacos in town.

This week I'm reviewing the "Smoked Duck Tacos" from Coyote Blues.

Coyote Blues is located on Ryan Street and has been here for around 6 years.
I'll tell you right up front... I've been eating these smoked duck tacos for a number of years now and this is my favorite taco to eat in Lake Charles. With that said, I want to emphasize that I'm not saying that it is the best taco in all of Lake Charles. I'm only stating that it is my personal favorite. Also, it is my favorite "duck" taco. I have other favorites from other places for "beef" tacos, "chicken" tacos, "steak" tacos, "fish" tacos and "shrimp" tacos.

If any of you know of any other places in the Lake Area that has duck tacos please let me know so that I can try them.

At Coyote Blues you can get your smoked duck tacos on either soft or hard flour tortillas. This time I chose the hard crunchy ones.
The tacos had mesquite-smoked duck, Monterey jack cheese, pico de gallo and lettuce. On the side they give you a little tortilla shell bowl filled with raspberry and blueberry chipotle sauce. The dish was served with sides of refried beans and Mexican rice.

The first thing about this taco is the duck. It is so tender. It practically melts in your mouth! And the distinct mesquite-smoked flavor is the main taste you sense with every bite. Perfect. The meat is pulled style and they give you a good helping.
The taste of the duck combined with the pico and the Monterey is awesome. The secondary ingredients compliment the duck and don't distract from the meat flavor.
Besides the smoked duck taste, the next best thing about this taco is the blueberry/raspberry chipotle sauce. I drizzle the stuff over these tacos. It is a complete taste explosion that completes this taco and makes it my absolute favorite taco in town. The sauce is sweet and contrasts to the smoky taste making a perfect blend of flavors.

The smoked duck tacos are large. If you were to compare it to a regular taco from Taco Bell it is almost twice as long as theirs. You can order two or three. The price start at $13 for two.
I always get just the two because with the beans, rice and chips&salsa I don't think I could eat a third one. For $13 you get plenty.

That's all I got to say about this one. Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Until next Tuesday my friends...
